Counselling and Psychotherapy

Life can feel difficult. To cope with the difficulties some of us come to rely on strategies that cause even greater problems. Maybe this causes a huge increase in your levels of stress or anxiety, maybe a reliance on drugs or alcohol, an unhealthy relationship with food, a compulsion to act out sexually. Eventually, the strategy that looked like the solution has become the biggest problem. It begins to destroy your life and your relationships.
If you have been struggling to cope with life in any of these ways, I would like to be able to help.

About Me

Professional Counselling and Psychotherapy Services

My career as a therapist has been focused on helping people to face and address the problems below.

My experience on the addiction treatment programme at a Priory hospital, in addition to my private practice, has given me the opportunity to work with individuals and groups and help people face their their problems, their addictions, their compulsive behaviours, and their disorders, then to address the underlying issues that made life feel so difficult, and to work in recovery to find a happier, healthier and more fulfilling life.

If you are struggling with life and need help with stress, anxiety or depression, an addiction or compulsion to act out sexually, an addiction to or dependency on alcohol or drugs, or an eating disorder, I could be able to help you too.

My Expertise

Psychotherapy

Counselling and Psychotherapy

There are times in everyone’s life when things can feel difficult. Sometimes those difficulties can lead us to use unhelpful coping strategies. Sometimes we can get stuck in grief or depression. If you are struggling to cope, therapy can offer you a safe place to talk about the problem and to help find a path to a happier, healthier and more accepting place.

Psychotherapy

Drug and Alcohol Addiction

We can all drink too much on occasion. Sometimes drugs are a part of the social scene we have always been a part of. There are also those who unwittingly become reliant on drugs they have been prescribed or bought over the counter. But if you are struggling to stop or cut down, therapy can help you to understand why and a path out of what feels like a trap.

Addictions

If you have lost control over the amount you drink, take drugs, work, gamble, exercise, watch porn, have sex, eat, you may have developed an addictive relationship with that behaviour. Counselling can help you to look at why you have become so reliant on something that is having a negative impact on your health, relationships or work, and how to stop and stay stopped.

Support for Partners of Sex Addicts

You may have known something wasn’t quite right with your partner for some time, but the discovery of the extent of the acting out behaviour is a trauma that most partners struggle to cope with and come back from. Counselling can help you to find a journey through the confusion, triggers, panic and anxiety so that you can make the best decisions for you and your relationship.

Sex Addiction

A term that is sometimes ridiculed, and possibly better described as a sexual compulsion, it describes behaviours that have become destructive to your relationships, self-esteem, value system, health and even financial welfare. Counselling can help you to understand why this has become such an integral part of your life, how to stop and then how to regain a healthy sexuality, self-esteem and balanced life.

Eatig Disorders

Eating Disorders

Food is essential. But it can also become a tyranny. If a pre-occupation with weight or what you eat is driving you to destructive behaviours – whether bingeing, purging or controlling – you are likely suffering with an eating disorder. Recovery is impossible without help, and counselling can be an essential part of the help you need to find understanding, compassion and balance in your relationship with the fuel of life.

Online Therapy UK

Online Therapy

It can be challenging to seek treatment for addiction due to the stigma or fear of vulnerability.

This is where online counselling and therapy can be so helpful – it can give you access to those who are experienced in working in these fields without having to travel great distances. For those working outside of the UK, it also gives access to experts in the field who also fully understand your language and culture.

Feedback

Three years ago I hit rock bottom when I was “caught” by my wife. I had a secret which extended back years.  Anita’s approach has helped me see what has been hidden from myself all my life. She made it possible for me to reconstruct myself psychologically, so I can be the person who I really wanted to be. She is friendly and a good listener, but knows when to be straight-talking with you too. I now consider myself a recovered sex-addict, but I value her counselling service so much, I still check in every few months. Happily, I’m still married.

I cannot recommend Anita enough. I had tried counselling before and thought it wasn’t for me. I now realise that finding the right counsellor makes all the difference. I went to see Anita when I felt I was no longer able to cope with life and my porn addiction had got out of control.  My sessions with her have not only helped me gain an understanding of addictions, habits and patterns, but also given me the tools to break out of my addictions and understand myself. As a result, my life has been completely changed for the better. I now feel in control, grounded and confident in all parts of my life and, most importantly, I feel capable of moving forward in my life. My only regret is that I hadn’t found Anita sooner.
